Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in each congressional district. Morris Museum hosted the exhibition entitled An Artistic Discovery which was open to all high school students. This year, each high school within the 11th Congressional District submitted four student artworks to this exhibition. The Ridge High School art students who participated in this competition were senior Ben Callahan and juniors Grace Chueng, Andrea Ibarra and Michael Sommer. On April 29th Congressman Rodney P. Frelinghuysen presided over the awards ceremony and announced Grace Chueng as the second place winner in the exhibit for her graphite drawing titled "Journey Through Equus". Congressman Frelinghuysen then announced that Andrea Ibarra was the overall winner for her photograph titled "Max" which has received the distinction and honor of being displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. See winning photo below.
